Yup Let’s see what can we learn from their design. Once again we’ll learn about Placement, and please remember it, if we’re talking about Placement, it doesn’t mean that it’s only about Ads placement, but all elements on your blog can give a side effect to your Money Revenue. And in this making money online world, that’s the important right?
Watch Your Width!
Just take a look at bloggingtips.com, go read some tips there, choose an article you like. Don’t forget to count your time since your first come. How long have you been?
Bloggingtips.com has a super-super wide post area. So it doesn’t need a long time to get my eyes become so tired. Just think about moving your focus from left to the way so far right, and then back the left again and just do that again and again until finally you’re successfully finished it. It’s kind a hard work just to read those articles.
Watch Your Navigations!
Ok, now I’m in the blog already, I’m a new comer and what am I looking for in this about blogging tips site? hey.. Categories. I love categories. let see.. hm… blogging(28), Competitions(2), Design and Coding(8) and bla.. bla.. that’s nice. The Categories list is pretty clear. But I’m a visitors right? and Visitor is a King. I want more! I want more then just Categories. Instead Categories, I want to have some Lates Posts may be? Most Read Posts? or Best Post would be fine. Hey, it’s a site about blogging tips rite? It must have tons of tips rite? So, could you just pick me the best you have there? I have pretty much confuses with this colors here. black sidebars, one on the far left and about 10 years light speed on the right.
Oh.. hey.. there she is, I found the last posts on the right sidebar. Where? Where is it? I can only see subscribe, about, about me, about page, about the authors, about them, about bla.. oh yes, I can see it now. uh.. but that is Last Forum Threads? No.. no.. go a little bit down. There you’ll see The Lates Posts list.
Hm.. why don’t they put them all grouped together? I think Categories, Last Posts, and Recent Comments would be better to be in a single line. [please don't say you can don't know there is a Recent Comments list.]
By grouping them, About Me, About the Authors, Featured Authors [what's the different about those 2 last entries?], Recent Readers [and why do you have Recent Readers Title and Recent Readers Sub Title?], Top Commentators can be grouped in to one single line too.
Be Honest!
Sponsors! am.. Sponsor! eh Sponsors! Man.. Which is the right sponsor? Text-Link-Ads on the right? or Hostgator on the left? Since both of them are affiliates, I think you can get them into one spot. oh and that Earn Cash too. I Missed it.
Just be honest with your blog and your navigation. You won’t loose anything by doing that. In fact, it will gives some trustworthy from your readers.
The Color!
Nope, It’s been mentioned before. let’s just skip it.
What next? hm.. oh, I missed the Upper Menu.
Let’s see, hm.. Home, Forum, Archives, Contact. I don’t see any functions of them there. It just doesn’t work for me. hey.. I’m a visitors remember? I can talk as whatever I like.
And The Page List, just the second line below The First Upper Menu,
Blogs that links here.
hm.. I don’t think it needs for it is a site that providing tips, just almost like a portal, It just look like a newbies there. Blog that links here? It’s for newbie blogger!
4 User Online.
???@#@$%??? just throw it away dude! hide it hurry! It’s again showing that your site’s just look like a newbie blogger site. Except if you have already had about 2.000 Users Online, or some like that, you can expose it there
Blog Theme, Blogging Faq, Links
I’m starting to think that Pages List is better to be in the sidebar not upthere.
Domain.
What the…. Are you providing tips to blog or selling domains dude? drop it!
Top Posts
Hey.. You have Top Posts?!! Ohh I didn’t see it. [You know what I mean dude, skip!]
Site Stats
hh.. I neither can see what is it for? so.. skip!
Well, I guess the second line upper menu is just going to be deleted.
What is my suggestions?
Hey that is another newbie question. Just read what I wrote. But OK, One thing. I think it would be so much better if Kevin just redesign his site again. If you still want to have the big banner down there, why don’t you make your site width just the same as the banner width? wider doesn’t mean better, It just give you some more crowd.
Thank you.
Jack

An interesting review. I’m sure Kevin will consider your advice.

the users online link is something that john chow brought up. it was a plugin i installed to see what pages search engines were browsing when i was online. ive since removed it
you made a good point about the latest posts and they have since been moved further up the sidebar
i dont mind criticism at all as it helps me with the site however many of your other negative comments were unconstructive
first of all the categories. I disagree that the best posts or top posts should be linked there. The site has more than 100 posts in less than 2 months. Im hoping the site has over 1000 by the end of the year - should i really choose 10 articles to link to when there are hundreds there? Whilst it is a blog its still a site designed to help people and as such tips need to be organised
i dont know what you mean about being honest - since when does placing sponsor above a banner ad imply im lying to readers? Infact, i take great pride in the fact im open with everything to readers
Domains - domain names and website hosting is an essential part of running a website for most bloggers. Ive been selling and trading domain names for over 5 years now so i have a lot of experience in this area. It will not help someone like yourself since you are hosted on blogger (nothing wrong with that) however there is a lot of things in domain names that people dont know about - masking, domain name servers, name drops etc
i do appreciate your review though - i just wanted to give my side of the story:):)
Kevin,
Nothing offensive, It’s just my Like Ssimon side
Sure, I love criticism. and by the way, about the negative comments, I Just try to be honest as possible and as evil as I can be man
Thanks, your site’s great anyway.
Interesting review - not sure ALL the criticsm was on target, but all the same - interesting thoughts!
Wish me luck too!
See you around,
David
Why not you try VPS or dedicated hosting? More reliable and you have more control on your own hosting. And the best part is you don\’t have to share with others. Price of course is the issues for some normal webmaster and blogger.
